The solution for me was to change the output (in audio visual settings) to Kona 8 bit, rather than the 10 bit as used by the default Kona easy setup. This solves the problem for me, and as far as I can tell has no negative effect on image quality. I

Symphony works with Kona. You need the NitrisDX for Universal Mastering. If you don't need that, use the Kona.

MDC is on 10.7.2 while clients are on 10.6.8. I now seem to think that it is the Kona LHe card in one of my clients as it doesn't happen with another computer and the LHe has tons (relative to non) of complaints about out of sync audio and video.

The Kona is a signal flow device. It is meant to be used to capture incoming video signals, from cameras or decks, and output video signals, to decks or broadcast monitors. The only way it converts is along those paths. Your footage is tapeless.

Don't trust the QT Player for precise frame rates. Highlight footage in the FCP Browser and look at the frame rate column. FCP accurately reports frame rates.
