| | | | Re: Delete Render Files in Autodesk Smoke by Brian Mulligan on Sep 5, 2012 at 11:55:52 pm in the Autodesk Smoke Forum Smoke is funky ometimes as to when it wants to refresh the frames on the framestore...normally it would happen on reboot as as background check runs called VIC or volume integrity check.
Sometimes you get get a refresh by force purge and switching

Once you unrender frames they become unmanaged on the framestore even though they aren't instantly deleted. They will normally get removed and freed when smoke restarts and VIC runs. | | | | Re: Framestore "is slow" by Alan Maiden on Jul 19, 2012 at 4:41:23 pm in the Autodesk Smoke Forum I don't see it should be a problem set up this way, for me the main thing is not to let the disks really get above 75% full. I find once you exceed that the disks start to scatter and that's when the smoke struggles to give real-time playback, especi
| | | | Re: Framestore "is slow" by David Jahns on Jul 17, 2012 at 3:29:07 pm in the Autodesk Smoke Forum Yeah - that totally worked for these clips. My drive was about 80% full - is that when you typically start seeing issues?
One other question...
When I set up this Smoke-Mac, I used an existing 8 TB RAID as my FrameStore, so it created the Auto
| | | | Re: Framestore "is slow" by Alan Maiden on Jul 17, 2012 at 8:20:51 am in the Autodesk Smoke Forum I've had this issue when my framestore is getting full and it is 'scattering' the media. Sometimes a fresh render cures it and renders it in one stream to the raid rather than it having to find all the 'scattered' renders! | | | | |
| | | | Re: Framestore "is slow" by Brian Mulligan on Jul 7, 2012 at 12:18:17 am in the Autodesk Smoke Forum I have gotten that when I had a drive go out on my Linux Framestore Raid and there wasn't enough bandwidth to push the video.
perhaps you have a drive failing slowly.

| | | | Framestore "is slow" by David Jahns on Jul 7, 2012 at 12:10:38 am in the Autodesk Smoke Forum Started encountering lots of dropped frames when working in the timeline, and even a failed layoff to tape, but the CLIP OUTPUT module helpfully informed me that my "framestore is slow".
My AJA System test says I'm getting 500-600 MB per sec, and

A few things... Smoke 2013 work swell with Prores footage and with proxies on my i7 2.
| | | | Re: Boated Framestore by Brian Mulligan on May 31, 2012 at 9:22:17 pm in the Autodesk Smoke Forum Most of the time that material won't come back until you restart and VIC runs to clear it. You can in Preferences>Storage hit the force purge button and it should toss the frames.
Was this material at all in any other project?

I was under the impression from my conversations in the show floor that they were regular QuickTime movies, but single-frame movies are obviously more in keeping with the traditional Smoke framestore.

When I archive I simple unrender my timeline and archive just the final edit sequence. This edit has history so all of my clips are present as well as all of my setups.
