Right side of cam, around the pause/rec RED button there is a "LOCK/STANDBY" switch. Use this rather than the camers/off/play(VCR) switch and it will retain ALL settings. Hope this helps you... 8mm & 16mm film to DVD

The poor man's way to do it is to use your digital video cam with 1394 out. Set the camera to DV OUT and plug you VCR into the camera. 8mm & 16mm film to DVD

I know that this is the over simple answer but Try cleaning your laser lense in the burner and reburn the DVD. I find that many times this solves the 'pause' problem. 8mm & 16mm film to DVD
