Color doesn't work with either of those formats. It works with ProRes, DVCPRO HD and HDV. DV as well...and Uncompressed SD and HD. It doesn't work with H.264 nor AIC

DVCPro HD won't be a problem. I'm not sure about the Apple HDV. You could just run a test with one on a PC with QT 7 Installed.

One other thing i saw was that my timeline was set to DVCpro and that made a 4:3 export regardless of the dimensions of the timeline. When I made it prores it worked the way it was suppose too. The "distort" too was also set to 68.75 instead of 33

I concur. If you shot DVCPRO HD...edit DVCPRO HD. You gain nothing by putting that in a ProRes sequence. FCP edites DVCPRO HD native, so it's not doing any recompression of the footage. How are you uploading to Vimeo? Not the full res export..

Ugh your right. I finally (after about 12 hours) isolated the problem as a balky firewire port and a slow drive. It really shouldn't have taken so long but I was so focused on thinking it was something I was doing wrong with the settings.

I agree with Chris: Lighting is the key. You will also want to have the camera in DVCPro50 mode which is 4:2:2. DVCPro and DV mode are only 4:1:1.

I think Jay is right, shoot 59.94, then the deck should have an easier time interlacing it, if it will accept the progressive signal. I dont' have a DVCPROHD deck to test it on, so this is only conjecture.

Wonder if the firewire port is fried. That has been known to happen. Try on another computer...try to another firewire port. Are you using a FW400 to FW800 adapter? Those have been known to cause issues too.

Is the tape you are trying to capture, something shot with a Panasonic DVCPRO camera? I think that there were some minor differences between DVCPRO and DV25.
