I'm not sure what you mean by "decides". If there's a Tape ID, CatDV assumes, (correctly I might add) that it came from tape. Note that you can and IMHO should, use path based proxy for all assets, even those that came from tape.

Maybe a bit of back story is needed. I created separate catalogs through Worker ingest for some image sequences. They appear as one clip in CatDV even though the clip is made up of several hundred stills. When I archive to the Cache-A all goes well

Thanks for this.. These are XDCAM files not shot on a camera but generated in Avid. We made the proxies in the worker and it thinks they are files however in catdv itself it thinks they are tapes, so the proxies we created in the worker don't link in

Send to CS 6 is a shortcut for Export as FCP 7 XML and then importing that into Premiere. If you could send a sample of the FCP XML files that won't import into Premiere to support at squarebox dot com we'll take a look.
