Thanks Rob. I understand what you are saying & agree it's probably not worth the extra money for the Black Magic card. Another nice feature of the capture option was that it let you control the camera from inside Vegas (Start, Stop, Pause etc).

Okay... I got ya'. You're capturing direct through firewire. No. Avchd cams do not have a firewire port as they are not needed. You can still capture direct (with some of the avchd cams) but it involves the use of something like the Black magic in

I concur with everything you're saying. I will add that the AJA HA-5 does NOT auto switch to 480 upon pressing the record button. I was shocked when I figured this out (spoke with AJA tech).... I think the black magic is actually the better adapt

In the log and capture window there is a tab that shows video and audio tracks to capture. Just turn off the tracks you don't need to capture before you log. This isn't really a Blackmagic issue.

It was done through Firewire so that may explain it. No chance of recapture now, it would mean redoing the edit as neither ProRes or HDMI have timecode. We have been quitting FCP so that wont be the issue. Would this be the same with ordinary capture
