Given all his requirements, the 5or7D is still the best way to go (IMO)...and I've been shooting ENG for over 15 years.

Again, IMO, if you want to shoot in low light (and have any kind of a decent image), you need AT LEAST a 1/2-chip imager. All the camcorders 5K and less, are going to be 1/3 or less. A 7D can be outfitted with on-board audio and lens for less than the Sony EX-1R. It doesn't sound like run-n-gun will be much of an issue ether. My impression is that each of the performer(s) will be in one location, but maybe I'm not understanding that aspect correctly, ether.
