Doc in Tanzania

Hi all
My name is Ale, i'm an italian videographer.
I'm sorry for my english. This is my first post.
I have some questions. I need some advices.
I have to plan a 20 days doc in Tanzania and I don't know how my camera and lens will work there. My big fear is dust. How can i protect my hpx500 and the lens from dust, hurts... Do I need something special? Do I have to keep my camera at home and find something smaller and easier like an hvx200?
Hope someone can help me...
