Pod or no pod?

I am commissioned to film a documentary. I have more experience on the post side of things, but shot quite a view interviews and some ENG stuff as well.
Question for you more experienced documentary DOPs.
What is your choice of weapon? Tripod, monopod or no pod at all?
I am shooting this on Sony's HVR-Z7 and it's too small to shoulder mount, but then again, keeping it on the sticks all the time will reduce mobility and agility of cam operator ie me.
I might buy a monopod and see how I go with that. Any experiences and what more should I consider?
And, any tips in regards are more than welcome!!!
Thanks fellows,
It's like what Lenin said... you look for the person who will benefit, and, uh, uh...
