4:3 SD isn't dead; it just smells funny.:-) If your market will still take 4:3, it's not *really* dead yet.

That being said, for a dance project, yes, shoot HD 16 by 9 if you are able. I would, if I had the option. Staying consistent in format thruout is really what prevents the headaches, but also, if you shoot the interviews HD as well, you will be able to play a bit with re-framing the talking heads during the edit, creating artificial zooms and pans, which may prove useful. I would tend to shoot the interviews a little wider than usual, with that idea in mind.
