"what are the obstacles?"

from my observations over the past 30 years - $$$$$$$$$$$$ for most persons ...

you'll have to measure/call your own success!

i have a friend and since 2000 he has made 3 features and currently is in pre-production on his 4th ..his budgets are 15-25k ( he raises $$ ) .. none have sold or been picked up..

another friend put 350k ( his own $$) into his movie back in 1990 and he's still paying it off today ( think 30k is left) - theaters & distributors made $$ ... he's been trying to make another for past 7 years ... if he had another 350k today he would put it into another movie

another friend is homeless .. lives in his auto/camps out .. does handyman type jobs .. puts all his $$ into his films ( doc & shorts). not happy about his living arragements but he chooses to put his $$ into film ... IMO if he received 20k gift he would put all the $$ into his projects and remain homeless ..

All 3 above have that "passion" for film ... these are persons that ages range from 45-52.... none have any assets ( as in homes, property), none have been married, have children .. and if you ask them are they successful all 3 would say YES ...
