your cabling is correct. One cable from the GEN10 to the Dig Beta REF Video IN, one cable from the GEN10 to the LHe REFERENCE IN. Make sure to open the AJA Control Panel, click on CONTROL, and put it into EXTERNAL REFERENCE (not on Internal !!!!!) Otherwise it does nothing.
There is a button on the front panel of the DWV-A500 called
PB PB/EE. This button should be in PB (the little green lite will light up do indicate which one you are on. EE means electronics to electronics, and it puts the VTR in a mode that is identical to when there is no tape in the VTR(even if there is a tape in the VTR), so you can see the incomming signal. When editing, or digitizing, you dont' want the VTR to go into EE mode. If you really want to know the details, I will tell you, but just push the little button on the A500 to PB.
