AJ-1400 audio issues

Hi-
Wondering if there are any known audio issues with outputting HD 1080i to the AJ-1400. I know the FW output has its issues but I'm coming out SDI from my Kona LHe into the HD SDI on the deck. Video is all good but the audio is "crunchy" for lack of a better term. Material was brought in via FW but I'm outputting from the card (I didn't have the card when I digitized) and wondering if that's giving me this nonsense...
Any thoughts?
Thanks.
