Pinnacle & Video Cameras - Recommendations Please

A friend of mine told me this was the best place to go to find out what type of Camera to buy that plays best with Pinnacle.

I work for the University of Massachusetts Lowell and we have Pinnacle Studio 12 and are looking to get a moderately priced camera to use for shooting events on campus as well as interviews etc.

I am told that different cameras play well with different editing software. So do you have any recommendations? Thank you very much I appreciate any and all help.
