Cinewave not dead
by Paul Dymon on Oct 28, 2006 at 8:53:52 pm

Issue solved: workaround

I am using Quicktime 6.5 and FCP 4.5.
It has been editing DVCPRO for years through a Pinnacle CineWave card. I couldn't get the P2 media directly in because without FCP 5 it can't read the P2 media. Or I can't find a way.

We have a G4 laptop with QT 7, AND... very important... the codec from the CineWave work station. (copy/ paste into QT lib)
I got the program "P2 Log" from www.imagineproducts.com
This allows logging to the laptop, or to a external firewire drive. Then mount the drive and dump it as QT to a RAID.

A little extra work at home, but we're usually on location anyway, without direct access to the work station so that's no big deal to us.
We can view clips with QuickTime and an external monitor.

So if you have some diehard CineWave junkies out there, heres their fix. The card works like a champ, cutting DVCPRO HD like butter, with a ton of real time including some great keying tools.

Thanks again,
Paul
