field problem

Hi,
I'm capturing SD footage to FCP, playing on a Sony HDV Z1U. I keep getting field dominance problems or something, as the footage always jitters on an external monitor. To fix it I either use a de-interlace filter, or go to sequence settings and change field dominace from lower to none.
How is this happening? Could it be the camera I capture from or FCP? I don't want to have to de-inlerlace footage or to change default sequence settings, as this changes the footage.
If anyone knows what might be happening I'd appreciate it.
thanks.
