HDV multiclip editing

I had a shoot yesterday that was shot with 2 Sony HDV cameras. The camera's time code was synced up because I had planned on doing multiclip editing.
I created a multi-clip sequence using my two clips, but It will not play back in real time without a render!
Can you not do multiclip editing with HDV footage? can anyone help me out here?
Brian
