need advice w/ new video drive
by Samuel Frazier (mus man) on May 20, 2008 at 8:04:15 am

Need to upgrade my video drive on my G5 to a 1 TB drive. Prior to now had always bought Western Digital RE2 (server class) drives b/c they're supposed to be the most reliable and I once lost my 1st three movies from a hard drive failure.
The issue is the terabyte WD drive is apparently much slower than the generally accepted fastest terabyte drive, the Samsung F1. Barefeats ran some tests here:

I mostly edit DV25 and DVCPro HD. So I was wondering:

1) If the speed difference would make much difference for my work
2) If Samsung is generally considered a safe and reliable brand. (I've looked all over for reliability test but found nothing)

Thanks ahead of time for any help!
