Need help with compression settings for AppleTV
by Matthew London on Apr 2, 2008 at 5:12:49 am

Hi,

I am trying to put my feature film onto AppleTV for use as a distribution device to send to movie theatres that dont have Digibeta decks. Source is 10bit Uncompressed Anamorphic, in both PAL and NTSC versions. I want to put both on the AppleTV.

In the included preset for AppleTV (using Compressor 3.0.2 with all the latest software updates), the only choices I see are for AppleTV HD and AppleTV SD.

My source material is NOT HD. Should I choose the HD version anyway and have it upconvert? I'm not in front of Compressor right not, but the SD option was a lower resolution than my PAL or NTSC source material, so that doesnt seem like a good option.

Is there any way to compress to the the native resolution of the PAL (720x576-Anamorphic) or NTSC (720x480-Anamorphic)? Would these even play out properly on the AppleTV?

Basically want the highest quality output going out to the HD capable projector.

Many thanks...
