Opening a file hangs/freezes in FCP 6.0.2
by Garrett Gibbons on Mar 8, 2008 at 9:05:19 am

I have a 20-minute short film in a project file that has a lot of nested sequences, effects, etc. Recently, about a month after upgrading to FCP 6.0.2, the project file decided that it wouldn't open anymore. I think it may be related to having trashed some of the render files at some point (though the problem didn't appear at the same time as I trashed the render files).

Here's what happens:

-I double-click on the file.
-It loads for a while, then tells me that I have a ton of missing render files.

Option A:

-I click "forget files", after which I get the spinning beach ball of death for about 3 minutes before FCP crashes.

Option B:

-I tell it to find the missing files, then reconnect random other render files instead of the nonexistent (now-deleted) ones. Then I get the spinning beach ball of death for about 3 minutes before FCP crashes.

I have given up on being able to access this project file again, or at least until the next major update to Final Cut Pro (crossing my fingers). The old, old, old FCP auto-save files seem to behave identically, which makes me wonder if FCP just freaks out when there are nested render files that are needed to display other nested sequences, etc....

All other FCP files open just fine; it's just this one.

Any ideas?? Any help?? I'll buy you a twinkie if you'd like. I really am stuck on this one and this film needs to be finished....

Thank you for any help!
