FCP generated text aliased + PSD files issues
by Herb Tarlek on Mar 7, 2008 at 3:37:19 am

Hi, I'm having 2 problems with FCP 6.0.2 right now.

I'm working with an HDV 1080/50i sequence. I monitor on a secondary 23" ACD through.

Problem 1: When I create a text in FCP using the "text" generator, all the letters with a slant have terrible jaggies VERY visible at full screen HD res (ex: Letter A, N, K etc). I've tried Arial, Arial Bold, Trajan, Times, I tried making them bold, applying a blur filter etc, it all looks like crap. How can I get rid of that bad staircase effect?

Problem 2: I create graphic files in Photoshop CS3 (On Tiger 10.4.11 BTW), I use PS's HDV preset. When I import the file in FCP, the aspect ratio is WAY different and I have to manually adjust all the layers. Not only that, as soon as I start playing even a little bit with the graphics (color correcting them, opacity, basic compositing actions in other words) a weird grayish halo appears around all the graphics! I basically cant do anything with .psd's in FCP other than very basic inclusion of a file AS IS. WTF?

Thanks!
