OT: Sony DSR1500 and mini DV recording

Hey gang,
I posted this on the Sony DV forum but no one is responding there so I thought I'd try here too.
I have a Sony DSR-1500 (not 1500A) DVCam deck with analog I/O board. It is supposed to be able to play back and record mini DV (besides DVCam), but I can't find any menu item that will set the recording format.
Does it autosense the type of cassette that is inserted? When we record to a mini DV tape and play it back it says "DVCam" on the front display.
Can anybody shed some light on this? Thanks!
//Jesenko
