Wierd Dropped frames issues!
by The Dagfather on Jan 11, 2008 at 8:46:26 am

Hi.

I'm experiencing dropped frames alot on two machines after we installed Final Cut studio 2.

The main machine is a dual 2 ghz Power mac with 3,5 gb ram.
This machine had a new harddrive installed before we installed final cut studio 2.

I've taken some screen captures of information about the machine: (in Norwegian - sorry)

Final cut playback options:

and last a screen capture with the error.

The project is DV-anamorphic and the sequence, project and clip settings match.

The dropped frames occur several times per day, and it doesn't matter if the sequence has lots of effects in it or if it's just plain video and audio.

There is no effects/Distort/attributes added to any of the video or audio clips.

The second machine is a Macbook Pro Dual 2ghz with 2gb ram, 100gb (7200) harddrive.

At work we have 4 licensed FCS2.

Both of these machines have the same FCS2 License installed. (using the same serial number)
This is because one of the machines is located at work, and the other one is at home/on the road. They are never used at the same time.

The Scratch disc is on an external drive. It's connected through a 3 meter long fw800 cable.
And the discs have more than enough available space on them.

There is no Blackmagic, Kona or any other computer cards installed.

The projects works fine on other computers. And the discs are working fine. (Checked and repaired with disctools and Discwarrior)

There is no difference to weither the project is big or just a couple of clips.

Here's a list of what has been tried so far...
- Trashed prefs.
- Used FCP Rescue
- Repaired disc rights on the computerdrive
- Checked project for wierd letters such as
