About two weeks ago I too started experiencing the same issues. I trashed prefs, repaired permissions, started with a clean setup and used FCP Rescue all to no avail. What I finally tried was recalling the project that I was working on and saving it as a new project. Closed the old one and trashed it. Saved the new one again and voila...no problems. I backed up the prefs using Rescue and I've been rock solid until I had to recall a commercial that I had edited one month ago. Same issue. Saved the project as a new project and started over. It's been rock solid for a week. I don't use the recommended "Open last project on application launch" because I work on various projects in any given day. But I will if I see this happen again. I hope this helps. I had posted this problem on Apple and nobody responded. The Cow should be commended.
