audio outputs not supported

Trying to use 4 audio outputs for a broadcast package, and when I go to 4 in the settings, a screen appears saying number of audio outputs not supported. This never happened in FCP 5.1.4, where I did this routinely. Nothing else has changed w/my setup. I run a g5 2.3 dual/firepod audio rack (firewire audio interface 8 channel)...Whats wrong?
