Panasonic AJ-HD1200A deck - can't not edit to tape

I've searched for awhile and have only seen a few threads about the AJ-HD1200A not being able to be controlled. My problem is that I can not perform a edit to tape with this deck.
I have been told that this deck does not have edit capabilities, is this true? any help or suggestions would be appreciated?
