you can upconvert via FW as long as both boards are in the deck;

However - since there are not flags in the same manner on the DV tape as on the HD tapes, the content will not pass thru the FRC software - the 24p timecode on the DV tapes is not passed on when doing an up-conversion in my experience.

yes it is easier with a capture card than it is with the deck alone.
