steady shot filters

OK here goes! Hi Apples I'm a PC nerd! BUT things are ticking along here and I might need to make the switch.
To be brief and to the point....
I am involved in Video creation internet streaming and DVD interface.
I am at a point with my 'very slow, but picking up pace' business that I need a powerful machine that does what I need it to do as quick as possible.
I am currently rendering DV 8 minute non stop shots in premier with 'steady move' (it is a filter that totally smoothes out camera shake) and it takes 84 minutes on my VAIO pentium3 1.2.
I have heard that both imovie and final cut pro offer a facility to do this (take the shake out).
I don't suppose anyone knows how long a 8 minutes production takes to render to do this? and whether it is very effective making the clip totally shake free?
I would be incredibly gratefully for any advice as if it is quick and effective I
