Why'd you update to 10.3.9? Seems to be a lot of folks in this forum and others are having problems with OS 10.3.9 including yours truly. Safari, iPhoto, Mail, and others are all having problems on my Laptop and non-FCP G4's since updating to OS 10.3.9. Since those are all Apple apps and they are screwed up with the update, 10.3.9 is going nowhere's near my FCP systems.

Basically before you perform any OS update, you should check in here at the Cow to find out if it works with FCP or even some of your other hardware / software combo. Whenever a new update is released, I need to check the websites of about 20 different manufacturers of my software and hardware before updating to ensure that it will not cause problems with my systems. I can take a few weeks to a month before all of my software / hardware is approved and then the OS update is installed on my system.

Best advice is to re-install OS 10.3 and run the 10.3.8 combo updater and leave it at that. You can run "Archive and Install" so you don't lose your apps and preference settings. I'm just going to wait for Tiger since it arrives on Friday and it's just my non-FCP systems that are affected. Also ensure that your Software Updates are NOT running in automatic mode, run them in manual mode so you can decide when to update the OS.
