footage 4:3 when i'd like 16:9

Hi!
I shot a corporate event last weekend for dvd so i shot in SD 720x576 25fps 50i. I then converted the footage to apple prores 422 and imported it to FCP.
The problem i have is when i place it on the timeline it looks fine, but then when i play it i get a prompt asking if i would like the sequence setting to match the clip. If i say yes it seems to be crushed into 4:3 (squashed and thin) and if i say no, it warns me about loss of frames.
As far as i can see i've set up the sequence to match the clip. I have anamorphic ticked, is this correct?
I'm wanting it to be 16:9.
I shot on a JVC gyhm790.
Thanks for your help in advance!
