Converting MP4 HD files from a Blackberry Playbook to edit in Final Cut?

Hello,
I've been reading as much as I can here and elsewhere on line about the problem of converting HD MP4 files for use in Final Cut. I see several conversion sofware packages for sale. No doubt they'll produce something that will "work". But by the sound of it even more resolution will be lost in this conversion. I've also read elswhere about conversion into ProRes codec, presumably within Final Cut, though I'd have no idea how to do that.
So my question is: What is the best way to convert Blackberry Playbook HD MP4 files? Is there a way less lossy than these conversion software programs?
Thanks.
John
