Unexpectedly Quits using Blackmagic Codec Plugin

I'm running FCP 7 and every time I try and open a still image in the viewer, .png files sized to 72 dpi and nothing is larger than 1920 pixels, FCP quits and gives the below message. How do you fix this? Should I try saving all the images as TIFs? PNGs have always worked for me in the past. I just don't get it.

OS 10.6.3, Mac Pro 2 x 2.66 ghz quad-core intel xenon, 16 gb ram, with BM Intensity Pro card
