Tom LaughlinQuestions - Soundtrack Pro
by on Aug 3, 2010 at 4:13:49 pm

Creative Cow Users,

Thanks for your emails and continuous support.

I'm a little new to audio sweetening, and I had a few questions about using Soundtrack Pro (STP):

1.) When do you normalize in FCP? And how do you do it? How does John do it, the same way?

2.) When do you normalize in STP? And when you do, what “db” do you use to normalize it to? (see 1st pic)

3.) When you take out noise, you mean, do you take out room tones or pops or cracks? Do you use the analyze filters in STP, and analyze whole clips or just audio where needed?

4.) Do you automatically take out certain aspects of audio even before you begin editing, or do you work on audio more after you lock down the rough? I've chopped up some interviews, so should I analyze the whole clip and replace the whole clip's audio or do it in stages and only where needed?

5.) Do you use any of the pop, click, or DC offset filters, and if so, how strict are you on those?

Thanks,

Tom
