[Larry Watts] "we have to render files to make DVD's and tape masters, and can never play the time line and see our edits smoothly. "

Well, ALSO not having used Vegas, I can say that no matter what, rendering/converting will be involved when making DVDs and tape masters. If you add effects, dissolves, color correct...that will require rendering when done. And AUTHORING DVDs...that requires converting footage to the DVD format and then authoring the DVDs. No matter what NLE you use.

But i swear I keep hearing from Vegas users how awesome and smooth Vegas is...how you can throw all these formats on the timeline and edit WITHOUT rendering. And how quick and smooth it is...and how they are sick of constant rendering in FCP. So now I am confused.

[Larry Watts] " Final Cut appears to solve a ton of issues. "

What issues...specifically...are you trying to solve. Give specific examples and let's see what we come up with.
