I used to do Avid and it pretty much functioned the same way for me. At least I used it the same way. And no, I don't ever call the end of a clip a transition. In my mind at least, a cut is a cut. A transition is any other way of getting from A to B. Final cut calls it an edit. Start on edit, end on edit, etc. And extend edit of course.
