Re: Film Fest Wants ProRes

[Jeremy Garchow] "I'd go to SQ. Gary Adcock's article explains that doing software transcodes from 8 bit sources (such as DVCPro HD) to HQ can cause some errors due to the way the HQ codec 'fills in' the extra two bits. "
Hi Jeremy,
The process of rendering to Prores in software, is the same than rendering to 10b Unc less the last step (compression).
The ' the extra two bits" are filled when the 8b footage is "upgraded" to 10b, without regard that it will be or not compressed to Prores in the end of the pipeline.
I would understand limitations in RT process due to the hardware, but not in a CPU where the machine have all the time in the world to do the job well.
Cheers,
rafael
