If it ends up looking stretched it is because the aspect ratio of the TV itself is not set right, and unfortunately you will have no control over that.
Every time I visit my parents I have to correct the aspect ratio setting on their TV, so many people just don't understand it.
There are no "technical solutions" to your "artistic problems".
Don't let technology get in the way of your creativity!
