So I quickly answered my own question:

The MPEG Streamclip folks have addressed the problem: http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html

Basically, you need to view invisible files, and go to Final Cut Studio Install/Installer/Packages/QuicktimeMPEG2.pkg. I used xMod to allow viewing of invisible files.
