Changing Sequence Settings and Scaling Footage Down
by

I want to change my sequence settings from 1440x1080 to 1280x720 and then take my 1080i 1440x1080 clips and just scale them down. When I do this though, my footage always conforms to the size of the sequence no matter what. Why?
The reason I want to scale it down is because I want to perform smoothcam on a couple of clips which I know I will have to scale up slightly to avoid those black edges and I just want some realistate to play around with. Plus I always export my stuff at 1280x720 for vimeo anyways.
Thoughts on why this is happening or on this workflow in general?
