Are you seeing the freeze in the viewer window or on an external monitor? If it's on the monitor, via a video playback/capture card, you may have the wrong video output settings.

Can you be clearer about what you are seeing - and where you see the timecode run? Are you saying there is burnt-in timecode on the video, and you are seeing this run, but not the video?
