These were the steps I took which resolved the problem you're talking about:
Close FCP. Go to Library, then Preferences, then Final Cut Pro User Data and delete this file: Final Cut Pro 6.0 Prefs.fcset
Empty your trash. Re-start the computer and you shouldn't have that problem anymore.
