Compressor issue & Deinterlacing on the timeline

Hi All,

Because I'm impatient I've been following a certain workflow for a while now when producing video for web, that workflow being to create a timeline/project to match my source footage, edit together, apply the deinterlace filter to all clips on the timeline, render and export a master full res QT file which I would then use to convert to all other relevant formats from within QT player. This way the conversion end of the workflow goes at an acceptable pace ;) (currently editing on a 1.83GHz MacBook btw)

However, for my current project I decided to give Compressor a go again, as everyone says you can get a better quality of deinterlacing from it over doing it in FCP. Once Creative Cow tutorial to remind me of where the settings are later and I have the set-up I need.

My current project is HDV 1080 50i from a Sony Z1E, I want to output to a 720p file for uploading to a variety of video hosting sites (YouTube, Vimeo etc). It runs a 9mins.

I duplicated and modified the h.264 preset in Compressor, to give me the settings I wanted and the deinterlacing from the Ben Scott podcast tutorial. (1280x720, limit to 5000kbps, Progressive, Better deinterlacing, Adaptive details)

3 hours later (!) and I had a reasonable looking 720p file with the sound now several frames out of sync.

A quick google and search on here, says that the sound sync is a common issue with compressor????

So back to the timeline workflow.

The only thing that's dawned on me recently (daft considering how long I've been doing this!!) is that despite me applying the deinterlace filter to the clips on the timeline, the timeline itself is still interlaced in its settings. So does this create a conflict and thus lose me quality when I export a QuickTime?

A quick test of changing a fresh timeline interlace settings to none, requires each HDV source clip to be rendered straight away, as expected, but what sort of quality of deinterlace am I going to get from this? I can't imagine it would be that great.
