Just don't go for seagate drives, unless you don't want to use RAID on your drives. I'm having problem with firmware and seagate don't want to hear about it.
My advice : wait for some time to have 2To drives on the market and go with WD or Hitachi.
Then, put them internal if you can, or find an external enclosure - maybe with 4 plugs : Firewire 400/800, USB and eSATA.
Have a look at ProavIO or Enhance tech chich are making really good and cheap RAID enclosure.
