Laying off to a AJ-HD 1700

Hi-
I'm laying off a 1 hour 40 minute show, DVCPro HD to a 1700 deck. I've realized I should be feeding the deck HD sync but don't have that box and need to get this out. I'm feeding SD ref to my Kona Lhe and then that ref to the deck. The initial layoff seems to have gone well but now during the second we took a couple of hits in the monitor on the deck. Thing is, when we watched playback, there were no hits on the tape at all. Laying another one off now after changing a cable and things seem OK although I have seen one more of those hits in the deck monitor.
I'm running to get the Aja tri-level box but was wondering if anyone else has seen this. Just concerned about laying back the audio at the session tomorrow and finding out something went wrong. Like I said, the first layoff plays fine.
Any thoughts?
Thanks-
Paul
