James,
that project file may be corrupt.
Have you tried a different project file, from the Autosave Vault?
(Copy it to your desktop and try to open it.) If it doesn't open, keep doing this procedure, working your way back through time. (The latest backup, the second latest, the third latest, etc.)
My experience has been, that you will get back to an openable version.
