Maxing out FCP

Hey Guys,
I just started working with a friend of mine who has final cut. He showed me that his G5 had four 2.4Gz processors with 8 Gigs of ram. He also saided that he didn't see a big difference after having all that ram. He was expecting render times to be cut down but they weren't. Other then the hard drive interface what could help speed up the process and things related. O.k. thanks.
