HDV clips play in FCP but no video in QT Player

Hi,
I have a friend who is using FCP v5 on a MacBook Pro. He is using the HDV 1080i60 preset to capture and edit clips and it works perfectly. However, when he tries to play these same clips (that he captured) in QuickTime Player there is no video, just black. Audio plays fine. I know and understand that you need to have FCP installed in order to get the HDV codec into QT, but this is not the problem as FCP is installed, and it plays back HDV clips no problem within Final Cut. I advised him to purchase and install the "Pro" version of QT which he did also and it did not solve the problem. Is there anyone here that can help before I suggest that he either reinstall FCP or upgrade to v6?
Thanks,
Sterling
