[Paula Trippett] "I need to shoot a film with a gravestone in it with specific text on it. I was wondering if it would be possible to shoot a blank gravestone and add the text afterwards using Final Cut Pro. If so, how do I do this? Thanks!"

you may find the task more than daunting, since you will need to process the info in a 3D space that will need to track with any camera move certainly more than can be done in FCP.

Why not make a prop out of styrofoam® and paint it to look like stone?

it is one of the oldest of tricks in hollywood. It will take a person less than a day to create one - whereas with your lack of expertise in 3D, it may take you more than a couple of days to create one in post.

The trick for depth the text on the prop?
use a thinner piece of foam for the lettering face and then mount it to a larger piece for the finished prop.
