Networking a G4 with a PowerPC 9500

Greetings all,
Running a Legacy 9500 for Media 100 and I'd like to network it with a G4 running Tiger. I connected the two with an ethernet cable and was finally able to have Chooser "see" the G4. When I went to connect as a "guest", I got an error message on the 9500 saying something about an abrubt connection break (or something similar).
Appletalk and File Sharing enabled on both.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Tim Scarpino
