AFP comparison to SMB and NFS

Hi All,
A question to the experts. How pervasive is AFP as a network file system protocol for new Media workflows consisting of new Mac OSX (10.4.11 and above) and would you compare it with SMB and NFS? What would be the main advantage of AFP over these other network file system protocols?
Thanks for any feedback.
